Dr Stephen Sinatra a well-known cardiologist has blown away the cholesterol myth that high levels of your overall cholesterol levels are linked to heart disease.

The link between high cholesterol and heart disease

The so-called link between elevated levels of high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease doesn’t have any basis in fact!

In one study completed by the British Heart Foundation showed that if you are over the age of 60 with high cholesterol (LDL) there is no higher risk of heart disease, furthermore the study showed that statins will have little effect whatsoever.

Total cholesterol levels are a poor indicator of an impending heart attack, in fact around 50% of people suffering a heart attack had high cholesterol whilst the other 50% do not have heart disease but do have HIGH CHOLESTEROL!

Basically, the jury is still out on the potential risks of lowering cholesterol too much, some recent trials have shown no increased health risks or major side effects. Some cases where the patient had depression and lower cholesterol levels didn’t prove a link between the two.
