They are normally sold in two different forms, supplement or probiotic food/ drink. Basically a probiotic can enhance good bacteria in our intestines, this has the effect of supporting the immune system.

The two major groups Bifid bacterium and Lactobacillus each has a variety of strains, scientists believe that each of these strains can affect the body in a different way.
Why did we not need probiotics in the past?
It’s a very good question, I mean us humans got along just fine for many hundreds of years and we never had to take a supplement or a probiotic. So what has changed?
Scientists have found it hard to come up with an answer to this question however it doesn’t take a genius to see what is happening in society in general.
Dietary changes the use of more processed foods, less plant based foods being eaten, the overuse of antibiotics, food additives all have an impact on gut health. How do probiotics help with digestive problems?

Optibac probiotics Intimate Flora
The practise of douching and the use of intimate soaps are marketed very well, people respond to words like how we look, feel and smell ‘down there.
The wrong type of products can actually have the complete opposite effect than what we were looking for, I’m talking about serious irritations and infections like BV, Thrush, UTIs and Cystitis.
I’ll give you an example, douching and soaps can have an affect on the vaginal pH leading to infections and irritations causing a disturbance in the intimate vaginal flora and upsetting the body’s natural balance.
Doctors will prescribe antifungals and antibiotics as a normal course of treatment however the condition is likely to come back because this type of treatment doesn’t address the intimate flora imbalance.

Optibac probiotics have over the last 30 years gathered scientific evidence from many clinical trials by over 2,500 females where the product has been proven to be safe, effective and natural.

Hi Thomas,
Yes Optibac Probiotics are available in the US, they have been around for 30 years, so I guess they have learned a lot in that time, of course probiotics are available in foods like yoghurts but for someone who has leaky gut issues I recommend their products.

Hi,
I have recently changed my diet to go more plant based and just started looking in to supplementing it. I am assuming most of what you have written here to be applicable to men too (apart from the “down there” part? Is there a specific product for men the I should be looking in to?
You mentioned that OptiBac is a family-run business in the UK. Do you know if their products are available in the US? Is there advantage to using a product like OptiBac versus getting the probiotics via food such as yogurt, kiefer, etc? I really hate how there are no standards in the US regarding supplements, it makes it hard to know what is a good product and what isn’t.
